According to Pat Culpepper, president of Progressive home and siding Foam technologies, foam backing has been around since the early ''90s for drop-in backer applications, but it wasn''t available in siding-attached formats until recently because of misconceptions about vinyl."The old belief was that vinyl expands and contracts too much to glue foam to it, but the reality is that you get better rigidity because the glue bond creates a tensile strength," he says.Culpepper claims installers like insulated products better than hollow vinyl siding because they''re more rigid and durable and lay manufactured flat home and straight siding even on irregular walls.
